ChildAid 2006 one hell of a concert @ 12:09 am

Bought a new top just for the all black ensemble. A trenchcoat with big wooden buttons all over...and Pam was all singing Buttons by PCD to describe me cos I wore a brown button brooch too...how ORIGINAL. I can't believe how pro and business-y i look. hahaha.

Mervyn offered to meet me at Clementi MRT and take a taxi there but honestly what's the point when there's already a DIRECT BUS SERVICE called bus no. 96. Anyway, it didn't make it because he was VERY late so he took a taxi from his house. I arrived earlier than I did yesterday. 4.05 now.

I got to know most of the boys from Temasek Sec. Two more girls turned out but since I didn't know them that well as I didn't see them yesterday, I didn't talk too them much. But we all got down from the same 96 bus in and one all black mass of body. I got to know the rest of the Methodist Girls' girls too. Asyikin's friends. NOW I know why and how they are involved with ChildAid. One of the Temasekians wanted to be the emcee but the position was filled in already and Shahrena wanted more volunteers so she asked him to bring his friends along to help out. THen Asyikin asked her friends to help too. And THe La Selle students were on an assignment attachment thing.

Our first duty was to place programme booklets which looked amazing on all the floors and bears on the first floor only.

perfect rows of programme booklets and bears for first level audience

After that we ate a Canadian Pizza 2-4-1 dinner. I really thought we would eat from the buffet like last year so I came with quite an empty stomach. But howells...BE grateful for what you can get.

By 6 plus, we had to be at the reception area. I was reciting over and over again my lines for when I meet Mr and Mrs Patrick Daniel. Everyone said I looked very very nervous. Iman and Shahrena told me to stop. I started to sing Sexyback by Justin Timberlake with Asyikin while waiting for the arrival.

They finally came at 6.35pm. Pheww. I didn't screw up anything. Mostly Mr Peter Khoo did the talking. Mr Patrick Daniel was VERY friendly and so smiley therefore I didn't get nervous. So I led him up to VIP reception and lingered around the area.

The next thing I was supposed to do is bring him down to greet the Rear Admiral Lu Tuck someting. Haiz...can;t remember his name now. So I set an alarm on my phone. Chatted with Asyikin, Janice, Iman and Yanling in the meantime...looking at all the ppl till we saw a TALL, DARK and HANDSOME GUY who was way beyond our league (as described by IMAN). Asyikin, me and YAnling were drooling like a fool just dor the fun of it and Joanna was being an uppity by telling us to SHUT UP. Yes mumsy....

Mr Daniel said he wanted to get down something from his car and Joanna insisisted I follow him so I waited at the staircase. Then this makcik approached me and asked me where her seat was and showed me her ticket stub. OH GOSH i really DON't KNOWWW. And the thing which really made me anxious was that while I was talkin to her Mr Daniel went up. So after I directed that makcik to someone more knowledgale, ie Elsie, I hurried up the stairs and met Paul. He smiled at me and I TRIED to smile back so he asked me "What's wrong? Why the grimace???" (you know in that FINE perfect singaporean english that he has. LURVELY) and I spilled everything and he just told me to RELAXX and HAVE FUN...not that I haven't heard it for the first time. But since that was the first time he talked to me for that day and for a long time and he was looking so relaxed and cool whereas I was not although he was the organising commitee, I started to go with the flow despite of anyone's snappy commands. WHEE HEE>>> THANKS PAUL

My alarm rang and I stammered to Mr Daniel to come down to greet the Rear Admiral who looked nothing like a rear admiral but I don't mean anything by it. It's just that he looked soo friendly and smiley. Mr Daniel was really funny. He went "Really ah? I must go is it?" But he didn't talk to me that much because he was talking to a lot of VIPs. He only said thank you alot of times.

After that around 8pm after the rest of the concert audience entered the concert hall, I led Mr Patrick Daniel in as the VIP party. And that was my last duty.

Then....CONCERT TIME. You can view most of the performances if you click on the green text. I was assigned sear Z 20. And would you believe it , It was right behind the camera that was recording the whole concert. Luckily there were a lot of empty seats along that row so I shifted. The MGS girls shifted with me too. Honestly, that seat should be removed. How can a person see right through a camera!!!

Before this at reception, there was the pre -concert performances consisting of Tampines Primary School choir who sounded HEAVENLY and the 2-Four Percussion. GROOVY.
WOO HOO!! Wonderful concert even if too heavy on classical. The hosts were Teo Yea Shi from Anderson JC, Emmanuel Ng from Serangoon JC and Lydia Adlina Ismail from Singapore Poly Mass Comm.

The Opening act was by SRJC Dance Team and Fanzine from Anglo Chinese Primary School and some graffiti artists by Yusof Ishak Sec. The pri sch kids were SO CUTE together doing a hip hop routine.

Then there was eleven yr old Justina signing 'Over the Rainbow' ...lovely voice. Followd by Abigail Sin playing Debussy's L'isle Joyeuse with her piano fingers all fast and furious..WOOHOO. Then, her good friend Janani Sridhar, the opera singer with woohoo and tralalala and ladidadida voice belting out Julius Bendict's La Capinera & Roger Quilter's It Was a Lover and His Lass. Then siblings Cheung Ting Yung and Cheng Ting Wai with Prokofiev's Sonata for Two Violins in C (2nd movement), Kreisler's Schon Rosmarin & de Falla's Danza Espanola. How's that for the hosts to announce. GOSH. They must have a lot of mouth exercises to do..try to pronounce them yourselves then if you think you're good enough. Hahass. JokING. The violinists flew especially from Hong Kong where they reside in to perform.

Next, a lovely contemparary DANCE number (FINALLY some GROOVE) by Chua Bi Ru ( not our classmate sorry) and Sarah Pineda called "What You'll Never Know". The tune was stuck in all our heads. Hahha. Next Michelle SUGiARto, another opera with Leonard Bernstein's Tonight. She's frm Indonesia too I think. But she was funny, she announced " The song I'm going to sing tonight is called 'Tonight' ". OK tats lame but makes for HA HA entertainment.

Interview session frm left, Emmanuel Ng, Michelle SUGiARto, Dominic Wong and Teo Yea Shi

Dominic on one of the small screens

Dominic up close

the best that I could get without flash on. I was sitting behind the camera crew so FLASH ON was absolutely NO NO.

Then the supposedly hot and makes all the girls heart melt Dominic Wong with his smooth guitar chords singing Eric Clapton's Before You Accuse Me. Good interaction with audience, made us clap along with him. But me thinks he's babyface cute. Uh-huh. So is the next performer, Nathan Hartono. Haizz...his vocals are improving me thinks. His new single, Life Is Good from his debut album: Life, Love and All That Jazz is quite phunky. Should be a good addition to the local music scene, something different from all the bands that suddenly sprang up. NATHAN, I think it's better you stay SOLO kays. Your voice=JAZZ not punk rock. Then he did a duet with this year's TEENAGE Icon, Ming Bridges. She is stunning ok...even if she's super skinny legs. I think she looks amazing and her voice is like ANGELIC too. They sang Louis Arrmstrong's Life is so Peculiar. HAhaha .. so cute...

Then Julian Wong became Dick Lee junior singing his rendition of THE CHINAMAN's Life Story. He is in NS but he isn't botak and isn't tan...so I'm still trying to figure that out. Maybe he just joined.

Next one of the cube things on stage came up and the sounds of drums came up...and there he was, the one i have been waiting all night for!! ETHAN ONG!!! He beat the drums to Akira Jimbo's Mid Manhattan.... I was nodding my head to the groove and so were the electronics ppl in front of me.. hahah. FUNNIES. Ethan is cute...ahahha after the drum workout...YES WORKOUT...he waved his little hands and the crowd laughed. hahah. I heard a lot of ppl talking about how much they liked him after the concert ended.

The many beats of Ethan Ong

Then another of the cube thingies lifted up and Samuel Ang performed the REMIX of Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata on a nice looking organ. He looked like he was dancing while sitting. Doing these steps with the pedals....GROOVYYY.. Next a piano duet. Jin Yu Jia and Rachel Chua performed Darius Milhaud's Scarmouche (first and third movement). How do they keep time together?? THe PROS them..

The NAFA Young Talent Ensemble were next, performing Vivaldi's COncerto for Four Violins in B-minor (first and third movement). They proved to be my FAVOURITE. They had such feeeling when they played..ABsolutely loved them I could feel the emotion flowing from their bodies to their violins to me. LOVELY...so so SO.

MY FAVOURITE PERFORMANCE!!! NAFA YOUNG TALENT ENSEMBLE

Lastly, all the performers sang a song specially composed for CHILDAID by Iskandar Ismail and lyrics by Paul Tan. Wait, is that OUR Paul Tan!!!! WHOA>>>>meet the man of many talents..hahaha. SALUTE TO YOU PAUL!!! They sang, A World to Imagine.

Dominic and Nathan looking so jazzy

frm left, justina, abigail, ming, michelle and janani...BELT OUT GIRL POWER

After the concert finished, we took pics with Julian, Dominic, I with Nathan, and group photos which Elsie owes me.

WITH THE MGS GIRLS frm left: me, janice, rachel (nathalie lookalike) julian, michelle and asyikin

WITH Dominic WONG...performs every FRI at Singapore Arts Cafe..RISING STAR...

GRINS with Nathan Hartono....I think my face looks fatter..hahahz. horrible but MUU is jealous...not my FAULT cos u turned ab oppotunity to take a pic with him b4!! GET HIS ALBUM. Worth it me thinks.

A WORLD TO IMAGINE
arranged and composed by Iskandar Ismail
lyrics by Paul Tan

Far too many times they say
That the road I should take
Is broad and straight
I should set my sights on goals
But do I have a choice?
Is this my voice?

There is a place,
A space in my heart
Where I can be truly free,
There're sights and there're sounds
Whole worlds to be found
If we open our hearts and our minds

I dream of a world where love is true
Where my songs can heal all hurt
Where people join hands
Not judge and condemn
It's funny but it feels so real

I dream of a world where love is blind
Where colour and creed no one minds
Where people can be
Whom they want to be
Hey you, we can make these dreams come true

Far too many times they say
That this one lonely voice
Cannot be heard.
But small drops can make a wave
So united we'll sing
Till echoes ring

Just imagine the day
When we can take flight
Come share the skies with me

success and sprained limbs @ 11:12 pm
During training yesterday, ms chng asked us to do a spin and catch the ball drill. difficult thing to do. everyone struggled to anticipate the catching of the ball. but my hand screwed up and i saw my finger bend at the most awkward position. at the most blinding pain hit my little finger...i should have accepted Sharon's offer for her to take ice for me. Then maybe the swelling wont be that bad. But NOOO i had to wait until after I played one game with the C Div till i couldn't tahan and asked Sharon to go take for me. I have never seen a more blue and puffed up little finger in my life.

Lucky my father could massage it for me. The swelling reduced.

After training, Shahini asked me to go do homework with her. The venue kept changing. First Temasek Poly's library, then National Library, then Tampines Library and lastly Macs. But in the end we didn'd do homework because it was too late. So we went around Tampines Mall. I saw a perfect top that I have been looking for for months. I almost gave up hope on finding one like it..WHEE! But that woman ah. She say it's the last day so I had to borrow $$$ from Shahini cos I nv bring enuff. Today I passed the Interchange and THERE it is..the stall is still there and not moving anywhere.

Today, went to Punggol Sec for a friendly. The basketballers there were noisy. Normal ah lah rite...boys. what to say...BOYSTEROUS...as in boisterous. I taped my little finger to the next finger so I wouldn't hurt it anymore. I arrived late and stopped 2 bus stops before the school and walked all the long ULU way there. So quiet the place. I thank Ms Chng cos of giving me the chance to play even though I will not be in top 12. Confirmed. And I thank Ms Evelyn Teo for eating lunch with us..Haven;t seen her for a long time..feels soo good to see one of our dear coaches. And I thank the Punggol Sec ppl for giving us the water and Oreos and bananas. And Xin Yi is so selfless. I praise her. We seniors finished all the drinks and didn;t leave any for the juniors and she quietly went to the vending machine to buy them drinks.

After that I had a quick nap at home. Aghhh so tired. Then went to University Cultural Centre at NUS for ChildAid concert briefing. Awww man so little IN Crowders there. Instead there were volunteers frm Temasek Sec and La Selle SIA. A was curious where they were frm and asked Yan Ling and she teased me and accused me of having interest in one of the boys..the tall one with the dyed hair. Hahah. Wahlao..u really got it bad when Yan Ling teases you. Lucky Merv defended me and accused her of being interested instead. Haha but poor her she is too old..20 ++. Haha...*-*she admits he looks OKAY..right...wtv man Yan Ling. hahah.

So tomorrow I will be dressed all in black..(YAY can buy new top!!!) and I will be the chaperone for Mr and Mrs Patrick Daniel and I will usher everyone around. And I will get to see the President again. ANd I will listen to great music frm talented ppl and I will have loads of fun with my crazy IN bunch and the rest and i will gain loads of experience!!! YAY!

But the downside is that I will have to reschedule the TEAM meeting for the ST National Sch Newspaper Competition. AGHH. Or they have to go on w/o me since I can;t make it any other day already. Also I think we will only have one ticket each and we cannot bring any friend along so I can't bring Muu and she will be unable to see her darling Nathan Hartono...hhaaa.

Still...we'll get $20 for transport. Which I'm not going to touch..Quite okay since I din't expect anything. It's for charity after all.

PPL IF YOU CAN, COME DOWN TO CHILD AID CONCERT AT UCC AT NUS. Tickets priced at $15 only!!! All proceeds goes to ST School Pocket Money fun and Budding Artists Fund

My finger has become red black now...
ANd my body is sore from all that defending...

Ok mind...off to sleep.

Oh and I absolutely LOVE my new blogskin....! WHhhEEE!

2nd day
7.15-1.00 pm Netball Friendly Games at Kallang Netball Centre

woke up at 6.15 am. Wei shan insisted we just go since we woke at 6. but i was stubborn. I wanted to sleep a little while longer. so as a result we reached late but before Captain MUU. So we are counted early.

I played badly against PRCS. They were so angry....made me play badly cos can't adapt to them.

when i reached school, withough WEISHAN, we played bonding games like WHACKO and I broke the paper plate.

Got an sms that afternoon after we break camp. Ayah Wan and family are in Singapore!!! And it's FARAH's BIRTHDAY so even though I was tired like AAAAGHH I went to MakChor's house to celebrate. Sabrina got back her PSLE results. 256. WHEE HEE. Ayah Chor trying to psycho her to go to SCGS...HHHAIIz so Far but I can see why...But Sabrina wants to go to Cedar. Haha. I didn't psycho her in any what way. I just told her to look carefully at the CCA she wants to join. and to follow her heart.

then the whole group of cousins who were there: Amirah, Azmi, Najihah, Naif, Me, Adik, Sabrina told jokes and laughed like crazy...all the aunties and our grandfather were amazed I think. We never did that before. Then we told ghost stories but didn't dare listen to Naif;s one cos his is a real KILLER. Warning: 5 stars. GUARANTEE: cannot sleep. That's what he said. but Amirah's was a classic...BESTSELLER.. haha...even her brother didn't know about her ENCOUNTER...WOOO. But I felt quite bad cos of not including our cousins from Malaysia... They probably had a lot of experience with these encounters...cos they live in motels in their schools. I LOVED IT COUSINS> LET'S DO IT AGAINN!!!

i'm spending a LOT of time with dearest Shahini lately.
just went to Toa Payoh to load up on our stacks of 8 books.
i already went to Tampines Regional Library twice with her and once with Jannah.
Gosh I'm reading A LOT...but I feel like my speed is so SLOW.
Anyways ShaWHINY's blog is wackingly funny ah...
What I managed to steal from her...and what she WROTE about me the NUTcase.

on monday i had the mt paper
glad that's over!
the i went to check ot vivo city with the 3 nuts
it's really big! -so many shops!
i had a lot of fun! haha
if only you knew what we did..

so anyways,
yesterday i finally got my retribution
for all the times that i made people wait for her royal lateness!
dearest Safiah made we wait half an hour for her
at the bustop under the scorching sun!
ain't that amazing?

we had lunch at pizza hut
i had the satay wrap which was not bad
(i had baked pasta.
we both had strawberry fizz which tasted BAD,
woudn't recomment to anyone)
then we went to the library
where enthusiastic me borrowed 6 books! haha
and last but not least,
we watched Material Girls.

The Name Game (on crack) @ 6:51 pm
1. Let's say you decide to open your own coffee shop. What would you name it?

Much Munch

2. Twin babies, one male and one female, are unceremoniously dumped into your lap and you're given the task of naming them. Immediately. Assuming that these aren't your own children, but that you will be in enough contact with them to feel responsible if the names you choose cause scarring playground mockery which will haunt them until the end of time, what names do you choose?

Abu Bakar and Tiara Aqilah (in honour of one of my favourite kindergarten kids during the Work Experience Programme)

3. Now let's say that instead you've been assigned the task of naming a dog, a cat, a fish and...a llama (just to cover the basics). They probably won't be emotionally scarred no matter how ridiculous their names are, so now that you can go hog wild, what names do you choose?

Dog- Bo Jo (ooh like BANJO)
Cat- Manik (inspired by Adli's cat, Unik)
Fish- Lita (like Lolita)
Llama- Ruyl (Hahaha...like Ryul or Yul)

4. To house your pets, coffee business and random visiting children, you are given a cruise ship. What do you christen her?

OOH Wheepee! my own CRUISE SHIP...like FINALLY. Then it will be Kelasik (kelasi is sailor in malay. but sounds like classic so hahah might as well.)

5. Unfortunately for you, just when things seem to be going so well your ship is overturned by a hurricane with the worst name ever: Hurricane ________. (The good news is that you get to name the hurricane, doesn't that make you feel better?).

Hahaha...Right, I just lost a SHIP and I get to name a Hurricane. Well, then I better make myself famous. Hurricane Safiah then. Doesn't that sound nice. sounds like Hurrican Katrina...ooohh. but it's so sad to be named after a disaster...Howellss.

GOONG!!!! Jannah is buying the DVD today. When we first asked for it, it was OUT OF STOCK. I wanted to buy it at first but after hearing that it was a FeReeKeeNG $49.95, i changed my mine. I don't think I want to sacrifice that much of my money yet. So Jannah reserved one. And she's probably finished watching a movie with Amira Filza and is on the way to Sengkang's Sembawang CD Shop to get that DVD in her posession. Yay!!! After she finishes it, i will borrow it from her.

I LOVE GOONG=Palace/Princess Hours. The story, everyone can relate yet still original(taken from a MANGA) . A mix of FUN humour, PAIN and Romance all in the right places. When it hurts you cry, when it's funny you laugh out loud- not a forced laugh but a big hearty one, a laugh which you share amongst friends. It's a story about teens so it's very popular. I feel for the characters. Frustrated for Chae Gyung, pity and anger for Xin, saddened for Yul, hatred towards Min Hyorin. The director could not have chosen any better actors to act out the characters from this MANGA. I will say I'm addicted to it. My heart wrenches whenever the show finishes. My days are numbered by the nights from time 7pm-8pm. I can't reply whenever someone asks me anything during the show because my mind is fixed on GOONG only. There is something important happening everytime that I cannot unglue my eyes off the screen. It is unlike most of those Indonesian sinetrons where if you miss two to three episodes, you still know the plot because storyline is stagnant. With GOONG, if I miss one, I don't know what is happening so I have to catch up on Youtube which is frustrating sometimes because the quality is bad. The songs from GOONG are so nice because the lyrics tell of the feelings inside the character's heart. And the tune is woeful and longing, hitting the spot of GOONG's theme. I can't control myself when I saw the livejournal site, PERHAPS LOVE:/// PICTURES GALORE!!!

Chae Gyung being taken care of by her crown prince husband, Xin aka Xin GOON.

Prince YUL is CUTE LOVE

see where we got our twisty craze from???

Chae Gyung, disguising herself so that Xin can't find her. Haha so cute.

from left: Min Hyorin( Xin's ex-girlfriend), Xin, Chae Gyung and Yul.

Queen Mother in the middle. Xin looks princely.

Throughout this week, me, Jannah and Amira Filza are attached to MAsjid Rahimabi Kindergarten as a work experience program organised by our school. We are the pioneer batch. This is my third day. Tomorrow will be my last day and I have to write in my work journal everyday and take pictures of each other "working". I think a week is too short a time to learn much. Right now the kids are preparing for their graduation ceremony and I will return on the 11th to witness it. Their dances and performances are all so adorable. Looking at them, I am reminded of the past

The kindergarten scene has not changed. It is still the same. The same cliques, the same young and foolish "love". The same "friend, don't friend". I wonder how my former kindergarten friends are doing. Where are they now?
